What to expect and prices

What to expect, what to wear and when might it not be advisable to have a treatment.

Initial Consultation

Your first session may take place on the phone or on zoom. I will go through a full medical history with you to ensure the treatment is suitable for you. I may ask you to check with your GP if it is safe for you to have a treatment, in which case we would need to postpone your session until you have medical consent. This is for your own safety.

Please note that your initial session will take slightly longer, as we will be discussing your medical history in more detail and there is an additional COVID-19 specific form for completion at each subsequent session. Please allow 10-15 mins for your initial consultation plus session time and arrive at your designated appointment time and no earlier because there is no waiting area.

At the beginning of the session, I will run over how you are feeling and identify the focus area for your session. This may be physical, mental, or emotional.

You may wish to bring your own bottle of water as refreshments are not currently available.

What To Wear?

It’s very important to me that you feel safe and comfortable so please do discuss any concerns with me. For myofascial release, sports shorts and crop tops are preferable and if having a massage you will need to undress to your underwear and will be covered by a soft throw throughout the session, with only the area being massaged being uncovered then re-covered as the treatment proceeds. For reflexology and Shiatsu, loose comfortable trousers that can easily be turned up to the knee are perfect.

Where will your treatment take place?

I work from my home treatment room and will make all effort possible for you to be comfortable. Please say if you’re not warm enough or not comfortable. You will be on a couch, futon, or in a recliner chair.

Shiatsu takes place on a futon on the floor with cushions and bolsters to ensure comfort. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, for example jogging bottoms or leggings.

Reflexology either takes place on a couch or a recliner chair. This will depend on your booking: if you are having a combination treatment of, for example, facial massage and reflexology, this will take place on a treatment couch.

Pregnancy treatments, especially after 24 weeks, take place on the futon. This allows us to get you in a very comfortable position for your treatment. This also applies to postnatal treatments and mum and baby sessions.

To talk or not to talk! During your treatment, it is often more beneficial for you to relax and focus on your breathing, but I do encourage clients to give me feedback. This can be around areas of discomfort or can be about thoughts and emotions that may arise.

Aftercare

Where possible, it is helpful for you to have some quiet time after your session and ensure you drink plenty of water. With some conditions, people will experience responses as their body processes the treatment. This could be increased sensation in the area of discomfort as muscle and tissues adapt or increased urination if the circulation of the lymphatic system has been supported. Sometimes people can feel exhausted after a treatment as the nervous system and stress responses adjust. This should ease within 24 hours but do feel free to get in contact with me to discuss how you are feeling and I may make further suggestions to support you.
